Description At Holsneset is the largest boat-house dwelling in Northern Norway and a larger burial site is situated at Holsøya. A court-site is recorded in the Leknes area. Part of this concentration is the graveyard at Ballstadøya, Buksnes prestegård, Fygle and Einangen. Today we can barely trace the court-site at Leknes, due to modern development, but it is accepted that there must have been about 14 to15 houses gathered around an oval "courtyard". In 1950, the remains of 4 house-dwellings were still preserved and these were excavated in 1951. The complex is interpreted as part of a central-farm which must have existed in the area, probably close to the modern "Parish". The distance from the court-site to the boat-house dwelling and the burial-field is 1 to1.5 km. Excavation Details Access/Ownership References Storli, I. (2001). Fra stamme til stat.
