They were mainly burial finds such as weapons and metal tools (swords, axes, celts, knives). In 1900 an excavation was conducted by the archaeologist Nicolaysen at "Auran", Kvalnes. This revealed one of the richest equipped male-graves ever found on the island of Vestvågøy: Finds included a sword, axe, scythe and hoe. In addition, one of the best preserved boat-shaped grave-mound is situated at Kvalnes. It has dimensions of 20 metres in length and 4 metres in width. It was important to live and die with honour. Your accounts were settled here on Earth. A great man was buried at Kvalnes, and his sword, axe, spear, hoe, scythe and dog were buried with him. He must have been a warrior with a great deal of land.
