Excavation Details
The Borgarca was partly investigated
from 1983-1984. North West of the main house
Borg I it was localised 5-6 house remains, covering
the area around Borg II and Borg III. Several
iron fragments and slag were uncovered beneath a
possible floor area dated to Viking Age. Other
features like post holes and cultural layers
connected to house remains were found. Dating
indicates the Merovingian Period. One earlier
fireplace was localised, belonging to the Migration
Period, comprising the Early Iron Age. As many as
three house remains have been situated at this
area. Several other post holes, fireplaces, wall
ditches indicate even two or three other house
sites. These questions may be answered if further
investigations are taking place in the future.
